Mike’s siblings in Sonny, Fredo, and Connie all play as foils to Michael, and all characters are both written and performed brilliantly. The rest of the family is also filled with interesting characters. Mike Corleone is my favorite character in this franchise, personally. Everything Michael does, from his mouth twitches to his stare-downs against his opponents, to the way he talks to people…it’s pulled off brilliantly. Mike is also very realistic, which helps since Al Pacino is such a fantastic actor. It’s a thrilling transformation to see, with Mike going from a hero to more of a villainous role by the end of the movie. However, the more he interacts with his family, the more involved he becomes in the life of crime. Once he gets back from the war in 1945, the movie’s 10-year length plot begins. He’s an upstanding citizen, who served his country by going into the army to fight in World War II. As I hinted at before, Mike starts out as a pretty nice guy. Mike Corleone as the main character is an excellent choice, because of how I think he has the best character development in the entire film. There are many amazing characters, both inside the crime family and outside.
Instead, these characters are proactive, and have fleshed-out character development that cause the movie to become something special. In this movie, you don’t have reaction characters. I must say, the first Godfather part pulls this off perfectly. The characters are meant to drive the story and make the movie what it is, rather than the other way around. Without the characters, we would have no movie. It’s sort of an assumed law among the critic population of movie lovers. In any good movie, there are good characters. There are two things that this movie does best: the character development, and the themes present throughout the movie.įirst, the characters. I heard it was an all-around solid piece of cinematic picture, but once I experienced it for myself…I was blown away. There’s certainly a lot to love about this movie. Mike and Vito, having a touching conversation with each other. Throughout the movie, Michael learns more and more of the ways of the mafia family. However, after a certain intense event occurs within the family, Michael decides to join the life of organized crime, which he originally opposed. On the other hand, Michael wants nothing to do with the crime family business, and stresses to his girlfriend Kay that he wants to be a law-abiding citizen and not be associated with the crime that the rest of his family commits, including his father Vito. The movie starts with both father and son living very different lives, as Vito is wheeling and dealing business agreements that relate to committing all sorts of crimes, both small and large. This story is about a powerful crime family known as the Corleones, and the two most important people in this family picture are the crime family boss Vito, and his law-abiding son, Michael. The story of the Godfather is based on an award-winning novel, written by Mario Puzo of the same title.
